Cedar Solutions has a dedicated land clearing crew with hundreds of acres of tree, brush, grass and rock clearing experience. We clean up and beautify overgrown ranches, change untouched lots into ready to build home-sites and transform cedar (juniper) choked Hill Country land into healthy, productive pastures. We also do driveway and ranch road clearing as well as right-of-way mowing. We visit every site to meet with you, the landowner, to best determine the right way to clear your land, the way that you want it – all at no charge to you.Cedar Solutions believes that the era of “slash and burn” (or in the Hill Country “doze and burn”) is over. Don’t get us wrong, we like bulldozers—for moving dirt and building roads. We think clearing land in the beautiful Texas Hill Country with a bulldozer is like doing surgery with a meat cleaver—it can be done but it will be messy and certainly leaves an ugly scar.
For optimum, low impact, environmentally conscious clearing, we believe that only young cedars, dead and diseased hardwoods, grass choking weeds and invasive species should be carefully removed. As we selectively clear your property, oaks, pecans, old growth cedars and other desirable trees can be artfully trimmed to provide a beautiful, finished look increasing the value of your property and improving habitat for Hill Country wildlife.
Cedar Solutions is concerned with the imminent threat of wildfires. We have cut and cleared hundreds of acres a year but we cannot remember a year when so many parts of the Hill Country resemble a triple canopy jungle like they do today. According to a recent newspaper article, “Despite record setting rains, Texas fire officials are bracing for the likelihood of winter wildfires due to a thicker growth of trees, brush and grasses across the State – all of which could turn into a plentiful supply of wildfire fuel.” Just last winter, wildfires scorched 2.25 million acres statewide, destroying 730 homes and killing 20 people. Partially in response to this type of wildfire, the federal government has created the Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program, both for “reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire and for restoring ecosystems to closely match their historical function and diversity.”
Eliminating many of the fuel sources by clearing a 100 foot perimeter around structures is recommended by most fire districts as an important preventive measure. We can greatly reduce flammable sources by removing cedar and eliminating dead undergrowth. We can also trim dead branches from your shade trees and cut grass and weeds to manageable levels as a first line of wildfire defense. Cedar Solutions recommends chipping and mulching all cleared organic debris after the rocks and refuse are disposed of. This nutrient rich material is distributed back to the landscape leaving a beneficial layer of organic material that aids in water retention, erosion control and weed prevention. If you, the landowner, would prefer to have the cuttings hauled away, cut and stacked, or made into firewood or fence posts, we can readily accommodate those wishes.
Cedar Solutions can quote your project by the hour, the day or the finished product. Because the Hill Country has such a diverse and varied topography, we like to walk the land and assess your needs before we talk about money. As far as production rates go, it varies greatly, as work accomplished is also wholly dependent on the specific terrain, slope, obstacles and degree of growth on your land. In a given day we can easily clear an overgrown ten acre pasture in Driftwood but be reduced to a half acre on a cedar-choked hill in Kerrville. Please contact us – we look forward to clearing your land.
